la heavenHow religious is Louisiana?

Across America, states and regions differ in terms of their cultures, foods, and accents.  But one of the biggest distinguishing features is how religion impacts the people of each place.
But while religion is widespread across the country, the importance of religion in people’s lives varies greatly from state to state.

For example, in the most religious state, 77% of the population is highly religious, while in the least religious state, only 33% are.
24/7 Wall Street reviewed a 2014 Pew Research Center survey of all 50 state and their religious make-up.  To get a ranking, it looked at religion’s importance in one’s life, worship attendance, frequency of prayer, and the belief in God.
Christianity is by far the most common religion in the United States, with 70% of Americans identifying as Christian.
Breaking it down, 25% of Americans are evangelical, 21% are Catholic, 15% are mainline Protestant, and 6% are Protestant.
When 24/7 Wall Street completed its study, the state of Louisiana came in as the 4th most religious state in the nation.  Adults who are highly religious  are 71%, and the percent of adults who pray daily is 68%.
Louisiana has a higher percentage of adults who consider themselves religious that anywhere else in the country.  An estimated 87% of adults in the state adhere to some religious ideology.

The largest ideology at 27% is evangelical.  Protestants are second with 22% and have the second largest share of all states.
And some 75% of state residents believe in God with absolute certainty, a higher percentage than all but five other states.
The Top 10 Most Religious States are: Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, Louisiana, Arkansas, South Carolina, West Virginia, Georgia, Oklahoma, and North Carolina.
The Top 10 Least Religious States are: New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Maine, Vermont, Connecticut, Washington, Alaska, Wisconsin, New York, and Colorado.
