Former New Orleans Saints tight end Jeremy Shockey will meet with the Carolina Panthers on Sunday and he said he will sign with a new team before the expiration of the current NFL year, and in turn the possible commencement of a lockout.

At this point, however, no deal is imminent for Shockey, who earlier visited the Miami Dolphins. Shockey prefers the Panthers because of the presence of offensive coordinator Ron Chudzinaki, who worked at the University of Miami while Shockey played there.

Shockey will probably have to wait until a new collective bargaining agreement before he gets paid.
