groverMembers of the Louisiana House of Representatives have engaged in a last-minute attempt to obtain a balanced budget with only four days left in the Louisiana legislative session.

On Sunday night, House Ways and Means committee chairman, Joel Robideaux and other conservative Republican members of the House of Representatives wrote to Grover Norquist, head of the Americans for Tax Reform for the purpose of obtaining an opinion from Norquist.  Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal has threatened to veto the budget if it does not conform with that organizations interpretation of its no-tax mandate.

The move by these legislators is unprecedented; however, the state Louisiana is finding itself in unprecedented times. Its governor, Jindal, despite largely contributing to a $1.6 billion deficit is running for President of the United States and will not budge from his loyalty to Grover Norquist.
