woes surprise 5

“Surprise Medical Billing” is not the only surprise in what you pay for healthcare but it is a part of what our current President was referring to when he said, “Who knew U.S. medicine was so complicated”.

The groundswell of Republican support for President Donald Trump is simply amazing. It seems to me that not only would Trump survive culpability if he shot someone on Fifth Avenue, but his loyalists “see-no-evil-anywhere” would insulate him even if he downed someone on Broadway, too.

Some call the passion and never-dying support for Trump by his ardents as a cult. Others simply point to his ability to feed the red meat needed to satisfy the angry right wing who has roamed the political wilderness, seemingly forever, without a leader. But, he’s now here and Trump is to be protected at all costs.  In fact, religious activist Ralph Reed claims that evangelicals have a moral duty to support Donald Trump.  Yep. A Moral duty.

A report last year delivered sobering news: “Louisiana has the worst health care system in the country,” according to Jill Gonzalez of WalletHub. Given that analysis, it is tempting to assume that any action Washington takes is bound to help our state. After all, there is no other state to pass on the way down.

But that assumption contains a crucial misdiagnosis. The goal is not to “do something,” it is to “accomplish something” and make the health care situation -- here and throughout the country -- better. Unfortunately, the approach that Beltway lawmakers are considering would make it worse.

In the coming weeks, will Sen. Bill Cassidy protect Louisiana residents from unnecessarily high healthcare costs?

It was not long ago that the Institute of Medicine named six Louisiana cities on its Top 10 list for most expensive places to buy healthcare.

Not only are Pelican State families struggling to pay for their health needs, but they are also not receiving the quality of care they deserve. According to a recent Wallethub study, Louisiana has the nation’s worst health maintenance as measured by cost, accessibility, and outcome.

U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy has stirred up a hornet’s nest back in the Bayou State over his Facebook comments of eating a Louisiana delicacy. The Senator had this to say: “Found this raccoon in my backyard. We ate him for breakfast.” He even included a photo of the raccoon. And his Facebook friends went nuts with comments. Who on earth would even consider eating a raccoon?

According to the just-released Morning Consult poll, Louisiana US Senator John Kennedy has a 51-25-24 percent favorable-unfavorable-uncertain/don’t know rating among Louisiana voters. The more senior US Senator, Bill Cassidy possesses a 48-27-25% rating.

Both US Senators from Louisiana are former Democrats, now Republicans in a strong conservative-Republican state.
