A Tale of Two Parishes
The national controversy over whether athletes should stand for the National Anthem has hit home in Bossier and Caddo parishes. And there are stark differences in how it is being handled in each parish.
Bossier took the lead. In a statement, the Bossier Parish School System said any student who does not stand during the National Anthem while participating in extracurricular activities will face consequences.

Money in the Treasurer’s race
State Sen. Neil Riser has raised the most and spent the most in the race for Louisiana Treasurer, according to the latest campaign finance reports from the Louisiana Ethics Commission.
He has raised $442,047 and spent $315,269 as of September 4, the cutoff date for the latest reports. But that has also left him with the least amount of money on hand for the stretch run.
Who’s doing the research?

Still the prison capital
Louisiana is still the world’s prison capital, according to a recent study by U.S. News and World Report. It certainly is the prison capital of the United States.
The study reveals that Louisiana incarcerates 816 per every 100,000 people. That’s more than any other state as well as any other country in the world.

Money flows in treasurer’s race
It may not be a glamorous race or one that has captured the interest of voters, but it could turn out to be an expensive one. We’re talking, of course, about the race for the office of state treasurer of Louisiana.
Treasurer’s race draws seven
Seven candidates qualified to run for the job of State Treasurer, the only statewide race on the ballot on October 14.
It is a mixed bag of candidates. There are six males and one female; five whites and two blacks; four Republicans, one Democrat, one Independent, and one Libertarian. The candidates are:
*Ron Ceaser. a black Independent from Opelousas.
*Angele Davis, a while Republican female from Baton Rouge.
Not that very many people care, but qualifying for the job of State Treasurer takes place this week from Wednesday through Friday, July 12-14.
It is not a sexy political position and it will be the only statewide race on the ballot onOctober 14, so it is not generating much interest.

The Senate’s repeal of Obamacare, crafted in secret without public input by 11 senators, is in trouble. Five senators are now saying they cannot support the legislation.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell can afford to lose only two GOP members and still prevail. The five are U.S. Sens. Ron Johnson of Wisconsin, Mike Lee of Utah, Rand Paul of Kentucky, Ted Cruz of Texas, and Dean Heller of Nevada.
