As he finishes his first year in office President Donald Trump is hitting his stride politically. Right before Christmas, the President led the Republican Party to a major congressional victory. Passing the huge $1.5 trillion tax cut legislation was not only a political triumph for the President and the GOP; but it will also be an economic triumph for our country. The tax bill will give average Americans and businesses needed relief, will eliminate the odious Obamacare mandate and open drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR). The victory was secured despite a very thin GOP majority in the Senate and the President’s perilous relations with a number of anti-Trump Senators. Fortunately, the benefits of the bill persuaded all Republican Senators to support the far-reaching legislation. The booming economy will now grow even faster in 2018.

For decades, the United States of America has been a very hospitable host for the United Nations. In return, their diplomats are notorious for getting traffic tickets and getting into trouble in multiple ways. Even worse, the UN general assembly regularly passes resolutions that are anti-American and anti-Israeli.
The United States funds approximately 23% of the operating budget of the United Nations. Our taxpayers are not getting their money's worth. We should not be funding an organization that is not aligned with our country's interests or values.

Today, Southern Media and Opinion Research released its fall poll which surveyed the Louisiana population on a variety of issues.
Importantly, for specific local politicians, John Bel Edwards is very popular, although a Democrat in a Republican state. His favorable are a very respectable 63%. He is also the most popular statewide elected official followed by US Senator John Kennedy and Bill Cassidy, who is below fifty percent.

Politically, the President has been damaged by the ongoing Special Counsel investigation into Russian involvement in the 2016 election. Even though no “collusion” with the Russian government has been uncovered by prosecutor Robert Mueller, the investigation has resulted in two guilty pleas and indictments of two former Trump campaign officials.
