It hit me this week while fielding questions from radio listeners on The Jim Engster Show: as much time as we all spend these days talking about what divides us, the truth is we are not as far apart as most think.
A few callers asked about proposals for new revenue streams, mandates or regulations on businesses and non-profits, while others wanted to explore different options to fight poverty. The affordability and quality of health care were discussed, as was the specific structure of our tax code and its inability to provide stability for both private markets and public services.

The horrific summer of 2005, dominated by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, left an indelible mark on New Orleans and our entire coastal area that continues to influence many of our actions today. Hurricanes Gustav and Ike impacted most of our state just a few years later, triggering a collaborative effort that resulted in the largest evacuation in the nation’s history at the time.

This week, the Louisiana Association of Business and Industry (LABI) released the 2017 edition of the Legislative Scorecard, highlighting the elected leaders who have a solid foundation in policies that promote economic growth. On Monday, the Louisiana Association of Business and Industry (LABI) released the 2017 edition of the Legislative Scorecard highlighting the leaders who have a solid foundation in policies that promote economic growth.
In total, fifteen legislators across Louisiana earned a perfect score from the pro-business statewide organization. In the New Orleans region, the honor went to Representatives Robert Billiot (D-Westwego), Patrick Connick (R-Marrero), Greg Miller (R-Norco) and Polly Thomas (R-Metairie) for their perfect scores
