Money in the Treasurer’s race

State Sen. Neil Riser has raised the most and spent the most in the race for Louisiana  Treasurer, according  to  the  latest  campaign  finance  reports  from the Louisiana Ethics Commission.
He has raised $442,047 and spent $315,269 as  of September 4, the cutoff date for the latest reports. But that has also left him with the least amount of money on hand for the stretch run.

The primary date for the statewide race is October 14.  It appears that a runoff is likely, which will be held on November 18.
There are three major candidates among the seven that are seeking the post – Riser, former state Rep. John Schroder, and Angele Davis.  All three are Republicans.
There is a Democrat in the race – Derrick Edwards of New Orleans.  He is receiving little help from the Louisiana Democratic Party and he has raised  less  than  $10,000.  Edwards  is  paralyzed  from a 1989 football injury and is in a wheelchair, but went on to become an attorney.

Nevertheless, Edwards is running ahead of the pack in a poll conducted by JMC Analytics in late August.  The results of that poll was Edwards 25%, Davis 14%, Riser 6%, and Schroder 5%.
The poll indicates a lack of statewide interest in the Treasurer’s race.  It is not an exciting position, but it is an important one because it is a guardian of  the state’s money.  Voter turnout is expected to be low  because  there  are  few  local  elections  on  the  ballot on October 14 to encourage voters to go to the polls.

Below, discuss this article that Neil Riser raising most, spent most in Louisiana Treasurer Race with John Schroder more cash in hand

Here is a rundown on campaign finances of the major candidates.  The report covers receipts and expenditures through September 4.  The camdodates are listed alphabetically.
Angele Davis – Republican
Money on Hand as of Jan. 1 – $0.
Total Receipts as of Sept. 4 – $402,645.
    Total Expenditures – $125,515.
Money on Hand as of Sept. 4 – $354,593.
Davis has received $7,500 from PACs.
Derrick Edwards – Democrat
Money on Hand as of Jan. 1 – $0.
Total Receipts as of Sept. 4 – $9,678.
    Total Expenditures – $9,012.
Money on Hand as of Sept.4 – $667.
Neil Riser – Republican
Money on Hand as of Jan. 1 – $20,193.
Total Receipts as of Sept. 4 – $442,047.
     Total Expenditures – $315,269.
Money on Hand as of Sept. 4 – $145,095.
Riser has received $71,250 from PACs.
John Schroder – Republican
Money on Hand as of Jan. 1 – $500,000.
Total Receipts as of Sept. 4 – $384,596.
    Total Expenditures – $256,059.
Money on Hand as of Sept. 4 – $614,644.
Schroder has received $54,197 from PACs.
As one can see, there will apparently be a lot of money spent between Sept 4 and Oct. 14. Schroder has $614,644 to try and bring up his statewide numbers from the 5% he received in the JMC Analytics August poll.  Davis and Riser will be spending as well to enhance name recognition.
