Today, Mayor Mitch Landrieu displayed his Saints spirit during a call with Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn regarding Saturday’s NFL playoff game between the New Orleans Saints and the Seattle Seahawks.  The losing team’s mayor will send the winning team’s mayor a package of hometown products including local seafood.

“The Saints are truly a source of pride for the Who Dat Nation and we look forward to them beating the Seahawks, the first in the road to a Two Dat,” said Mayor Landrieu. “Like our Saints, we also pride ourselves on our cuisine, especially Louisiana seafood. But we don’t expect to be sending any to the ‘Emerald City’ anytime soon. We look forward to some of Seattle’s salmon next week.”

Each Mayor’s wager includes an assortment of items for which the city they lead is known.

Mayor Landrieu’s wager includes:

  • Louisianaseafood including oysters and shrimp
  • Gumbo
  • King Cake
  • Music of New Orleans legends including Fats Domino, Irma Thomas, and the Neville Brothers
  • Music from the new hit HBO show “Treme”

Mayor McGinn’s wager includes:

  • Pacific seafood including smoked salmon
  • Top Pot maple bars- a Seattle doughnut
  • Music from the Seattle scene

Today being the official start of the 2011 Carnival season, Mayor Landrieu also invited Mayor McGinn to New Orleans for Mardi Gras.
