               Re:         Deepwater Horizon/BP Oil Spill

Dear President Obama,

The Louisiana coastal parishes are united in working with each other and with you to see the drilling process expedited as quickly as possible.  It is imperative to our collective economies that we move forward with the process of providing the energy that moves our nation.  We are greatly concerned however about the effects of the recent drilling moratorium and direction of the permitting process as well as the slow pace in which permit applications are moving forward.  We continue to be deeply concerned and would very much like to discuss with you how the BP oil spill clean-up is progressing while at the same time recognizing and appreciating your efforts early on in helping us implement our jack-up boats and berms response efforts both of which did the job they were intended to do in holding back the oil.

In retrospect the only true time we have been able to get things done were during your visits to our area and through your willingness to listen and make the necessary decisions to direct the response.  We feel we need to sit down with you again however and personally thank you for all your efforts throughout this oil spill disaster while at the same time explaining some of the things we believe should be done to speed up the permitting process.

As the leaders of the Louisiana coastal parishes we are firm in our determination to continue working in a united effort and we would very much like to meet with you at your convenience to discuss these issues.  We can either come to Washington or you may want to visit with us in South Louisiana especially with the first anniversary of the oil spill coming up.  It may be a good opportunity for you to come down and sit with us to talk about the progress we have made.  We appreciate your consideration.

Thank you again for all your support.  We look forward to hearing from you or your staff.
