This is important because all of the major players in the Jefferson family criminal enterprise need to be brought to justice. This was political corruption on a massive scale. While Gill Pratt may be dumb, she can’t possibly be dumb enough to be unaware of blatant criminal behavior that was happening all around her. She was the long-time girlfriend of the mastermind of the corruption, Mose Jefferson. Her office was in the building that housed the Jefferson family scam operations known as charities.
At some point in her long political career, Gill Pratt must have been aware that no productive activity was being conducted by the charities she was funding with public dollars. Gill Pratt was very successful in securing appropriations for these bogus operations. Sadly, the money was funneled to the Jefferson family and was not used to help the many poor people in Gill Pratt’s district. She was serving only one group of voters, the Jefferson family. Her attention, money, office and even her love life was all centered on the Jefferson family. If her supporters want to believe that Gill Pratt turned a blind eye toward the massive corruption in her midst that is dumb, but for her constituents to keep re-electing a clueless crony to office over and over again, that is even dumber.
It is a crying shame that the State of Louisiana continued to pour money into shams, masquerading as charities. There should have been investigations by fellow legislators or the legislative auditor. Someone from the Attorney General’s office should have been investigating this longstanding case of corruption. Instead, federal prosecutors were once again forced to intervene since local and state prosecutors neglected to investigate this wrongdoing.
The entire state continues to tolerate too much political corruption and an archaic system of government known as politics as usual.
The results are clearly detrimental to the State of Louisiana. Political corruption is toxic to our business community; it hurts our national image, drives people away from Louisiana and is another reason why our state keeps losing congressional seats.
Therefore, it is high time that Louisiana voters get the message that electing people like Renee Gill Pratt to any type of political office is dumber than dumb.
