The Saints are currently scheduled to take the 56th over-all pick in the second round of the NFL Draft on April 29.

Looking back at the last 10 selections with this pick, several players have gone on to have solid NFL careers. Seven of the 10 are still playing in the league. Below is a review of the last 10 56th selections:

2010; DE Mike Neal, Purdue to Green Bay
2009: DT Fili Moala, USC ro Indianapolis
2008: QB Brian Brohm, Louisville to Green Bay
2007: DE Tim Crowder, Texas to Denver
2006: C Chris Chester, Oklahoma to Baltimore
2005: CB Darrent Williams, Oklahoma State to Denver
2004: S Madieu Williams, Maryland to Cincinnati
2003: DE Osi Umenyiora, Troy to NY Giants
2002: RB Ladell Betts, Iowa to Washington
2001: S Tony Dixon, Alabama to Dallas.

Betts is a nine-year veteran who joined the Saints after spending the first eight seasons of his career with the Redskins. Serving both in a feature and complementary role, he's carried 821 times for 3,326 yards with 15 touchdowns and made 188 receptions for 1,646 with 3 touchdowns.

Betts was one of a group of backs that helped spell for an injured Reggie Bush and Pierre Thomas. He played in seven games and had 45 carries for 150 yards and 2 touchdowns and had 23 catches for 141 yards.

Picked by the Giants in 2003 out of Troy, Umenyiora has been the standout of the group, being selected to multiple Pro Bowl and Associated Press All-Pro squads and being part of the Super Bowl XLII championship team.

The Saints haven't ever had the 56th player picked.

Picked by the Packers in 2008, Brohm was beaten out of the No. 2 quarterback job by Matt Flynn of LSU and currently serves as a backup at Buffalo.

SOME hither, others yon: Tennessee Titans owner Bud Adams said that in his mind the NFL will emerge from its lockout in time to play the 2011 season. "It's going to be a few months, but we'll be playing this year. I guarantee we'll be playing," Adams told the Tennessean. Adams, 88, is one of the NFL's longest-tenured owners and has led the Titans franchise since its inception of the old AFL in 1959, He owned the Houston Oilers and drafted Billy Cannon with his first draft pick. "It's one of those things that the players haven't been very much wanting to work out a deal with the owners," said Adams. The league and the NFLPA are due in court on April 6 for a hearing about the players' request for an injunction to stop the lockout...

The personal passing coach to former Raiders quarterback JaMarcus Russell said the team is partly responsible for the failed tenure of the former No. 1 over-all draft pick, Tom Martinez told the New York Times that the Raiders did not provide a supportive environment toi allow Russell to play well. "He was never wanted there by any of the coaches. The only one who wanted him there was Al Davis. While Martinez didn't deny Russell's effort issues, he said the Jets, who may be considering adding Russell as a backup to Mark Sanchez, would be a good option for Russell. Former Saints quarterback Mark Brunnel was the Jets' backup last season. "With the Jets, they run the ball and that will help him, it will open up the passing game," said Martinez. "If he gets that and actually has receivers who can get open, then the Jets will have a steal"...

Outfielder Jared Mitchell, the Chicago White Sox's first-round draft pick two years ago, has been assigned to Class A Winston-Salem, N.C. He spent last seasonehabbing an ankle injury in the Arizona Fall League...
