The NAACP, led by its president Danatus King, on Friday has requested that  federal, state and local officials look into what might be a growing scandal within the Mitch Landrieu administration and New Orleans police chief, Chief Serpas.

The scandal relates to outsourcing of special details related to the city's traffic camera program in which high NOPD officials were paid outside of their assigned duties.

In the letter, King writes: "serious concerns exist regarding the integrity of the New Orleans Police Department's processing of the camera tickets. Those concerns have caused citizens of New Orleans to raise questions as to whether our criminal laws and ethical rules are being equally applied or whether certain individuals are exempted from the application of those laws and rules because of their political positions, social status or race."

In a written statement earlier this week, Mayor Mitch Landrieu said “We are taking action to change the system swiftly and comprehensively.  I turned these recent allegations over to the Office of Inspector General for review.  As with other investigations, we will allow it to run its course.

King had been only the Landrieu task force to pick the Superintendent but resigned after feeling that the taskforce was not sufficiently transparent or empowered to do the job it was assigned.
