Presented by NOBA and led by Angel Corella, the May 14 program featured works by acclaimed choreographers Stanton Welch and Christopher Wheeldon, as well as a flamenco-inspired duet performed by Corella and his sister, Carmen. In addition to the performance, on Wednesday NOBA hosted a very elegant Benefactor Dinner at the Windsor Court, where I got to meet the talented Señor Corella. He and his family were the special guests of honor on Friday at the annual BRAVO gala fundraiser,“A España Con Amor,” at Gallier Hall. On Saturday was the majestic Ballet and it was magnificent, especially the duo of Angel and Carmen Corella. I cannot wait to see them again.
Last week, I also attended a lovely spring soiree at the tropical lush courtyard of David Speights on Royal Street. The Southeast Louisiana Council Boy Scouts of America presented its highest honor , the distinguished Eagle Scout Award to Cajun artist George Rodrigue at its 2011 Golden Eagle Dinner. I also attended the closing of the delicious Wine Festival at Le Meritage, the always delicious wine tasting “Cork in the Park” and the elegant American Heart Association's Heart and Soul Gala at the Westin New Orleans Canal Place. The Gala featured live music from the Joe Krown Trio with Walter "Wolfman" Washington, Russell Batiste, Jr., and Stooges Brass Band.On Sunday, it was time for me to judge the Jefferson Society's Parasol Contest at the Audubon Tea Room. By the end of the afternoon, I ran out of energy, but what a way to go.
Darlings, this week is also going to be another social marathon for me since on Wednesday I will be presenting an art exhibit of the new works by Joachim Casell and Casell Gallery at the spacious lobby of the JW Marriott Hotel on Canal Street from 5:30-8 p.m. Hope some of you can make it since my darling friend Javier Gutierrez will be playing his guitar and there will be complimentary hors d' oeuvres and wine tasting. Not to be missed.
On Thursday, I do not want to miss one of the best bargains in town when the Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots and Dorignac's presents "A Grape Adventure" Albarino to Zinfandel.
Sample more than 35 fine wines from top producers from around the world from 6-8 p..m., with a great selection of cheeses and live entertainment for $25.
On Friday, I am looking forward to attending the annual Ogden Museum of Southern Art's Sippin’ in Seersuckers. It will be an evening of Southern Art, music, cocktails, delicious cuisine, fashion and shopping at Canal Place. That evening is also the annual Rollin' On Rampart at the Atrium of the Steel Building. The fun-loving fundraiser will feature entertainment by Deacon John and the Ivories.
On Saturday, LPO is presenting Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto, featuring acclaimed violinist Vadim Glusman and Stravinsky’s “Rite of Spring” at Mahalia Jackson at 8 p.m.
This weekend is also the Bayou Boogaloo, a free admission music festival in Mid City, held on the banks of the beautiful and historic Bayou St. John. The spirit of the festival captures the spirit of this diverse and historic neighborhood. It is a family-friendly cultural event that celebrates the heritage of New Orleans music, New Orleans cuisine, and New Orleans culture. My darling friend attorney/artist Stephen Rue just painted the official poster for the Bayou Boogaloo, so let's enjoy the event and the poster.
