louisiana-entertainmentIn my opinion, Chris Stelly might have one of the most fun jobs in Louisiana state government.  He is the Director of Entertainment for Louisiana Economic Development.

 There is the argument that just having the title “entertainment” would be “entertaining”.

In this case, he oversees a suite of tax incentive programs which includes:

The third-largest film industry in the country;

The digital interactive media (Digital media) incentive program which is one of the major reasons that there has been a real influx of young talent into the state;

The sound recording tax incentives;

The live performance tax incentives.

Starting under the Mike Foster administration, Louisiana began to offer these incentive programs in a state that is known for the oil and chemical industries. Now, these incentives are helping to keep and grow jobs and helping to boost the economy.

The film industry incentives helped with the filming of the nationally acclaimed Academy Award winning movie, “Ray”, starring Jamie Foxx who played the iconic Ray Charles.

Last year, the digital media incentives helped a Shreveport animation company, Moonbot, led by William Joyce, win an Academy Award and achieve stardom in the app world, in part to the “holistic” approach the department took in granting the tax credits.

For more details, watch Part I (below) of my interview with Stelly who gives a broad overview of the incentive program and what it is doing for the state.

The interview was conducted solely over the Internet as I was in the New Orleans region and Stelly answered my questions from his Baton Rouge office.

However, I must say that I could feel his enthusiasm and love for his job almost 80 miles away.  I think you will agree.

Check it out.
