Margarita BergenDarlings,

What a wonderful week. A steamy one but the fun-filled soirees kept me going.

I started my week by attending on Wednesday morning a press conference in which Irvin Mayfield, tourism representatives and hospitality leaders from Irvin Mayfield’s Jazz Playhouse at the Royal Sonesta Hotel and Irvin Mayfield’s I Club at the JW Marriott Hotel, announced the launch of a new fundraising initiative entitled “Love Sessions: A Festival of Giving – 11 Nights of Music, 11 Nights of Giving.”

(check out Margarita's photos of events on the following pages below)

The concert series benefits a different nonprofit organization each night. The “Love Sessions” begin on Friday August 19 and run through Thursday August 25th at Irvin Mayfield’s Jazz Playhouse withThe Thriller at the Playhouse,” a seven-night trumpet battle that builds on a playful, decade-old rivalry between Irvin Mayfield and local trumpet legend Kermit Ruffins. The festival continues at the new Irvin Mayfield I Club on Friday August 26 and runs through Monday August 29 with the “Love Moments,” a four-night musical encounter between two-time Grammy Award-winning trumpeter Roy Hargrove and his New York City based band and Irvin Mayfield and his New Orleans-inspired septet. (See the calendar for all the performances and the benefiting nonprofit organizations.)

Immediately, I rushed to my luncheon where community leaders Gordon R. Wedge, President and CEO of Catholic Charities; Paul Maassen, General Manager of 89.9 WWNO FM; and the new CEO of the New Orleans Tourism Marketing Corporation, Mark Romig shared their thoughts about New Orleans and how they are helping the community. Live entertainment was provided by actress/songstress Jessie Terrebonne and pianist Jim Walpole.

That evening  I was running fast because , there was a very special soiree benefitting the conservation efforts of America Wetland at Deanie's in the French Quarter. I was there briefly enjoying the delicious  hors d' oeuvres and the libation since I wanted to attend Pirate's Alley Faulkner Society's celebration of the release of books by Tom Carson and Tom Piazza. The event as always was delightful but it was time to catch the steamboat Natchez for Margaritas on the Mississippi. It was really nice and very relaxing in a beautiful evening. I hope you will enjoy the photos.
My darling friend Regina Keever,co-owner of Bayona Restaurant invited me to lunch at Bayona where the Krewe of Cork will be having their next monthly luncheon. The food was delicious and, in case you do not know, the restaurant is featuring a Julia Child Menu on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Three delicious courses for only $45 plux tax and gratuities. Bayona is also featuring two upcoming dinners: “The Marriage of Wine and Food”, a 4 course menu with paired wines. The first one will be a celebration of Alsace on August 24 and on August 31 will be a salute to Spain. I cannot wait. The price is $88 and I would love to put a table together so please let me know. For reservations call 504-525-4455.

On Saturday, while working, I got to see a sea of red dresses parading and frolicking throughout the Marigny and the French Quarter for a great cause. At 6:00 I rushed to the Sheraton Hotel to attend the patron party of the annual YLC Gala celebrating its 25th year and honoring 25 very deserving individuals. Unfortunately, I couldn't really enjoy it as much as I would have liked to because I had to rush back to Casell Gallery to host the Dirty Linen Night which was a lot of fun. Thanks to Republic Beverage and Fred Holley who provided me with wonderful wines and libations.

On Sunday, I got a chance to see the Saints beat the 49ers at the remodeled Superdome. The game was a thrill and I got to see wonderful old friends at the Gershaniks’ suite at the Superdome.
This upcoming week is going to be a lot of fun as well, since, on Saturday, August 20, I will be attending the annual American Cancer Society 's Hope Gala 2011 at the Shops at Canal Place (see the calendar for more details).

I am looking forward to Monday, August 22 when we can dine with five of Louisiana's hottest chefs at the annual Louisiana Cooking's “Chefs to Watch 2011” Awards Dinner at Harrah's New Orleans Theater, honoring: Cory Bahr, Executive Chef, Restaurant Sage, Monroe, and 102 A Bistro, Ruston; Drew Dzejak, Executive Chef, The Grill Room at the Windsor Court, New Orleans; Nathan Gresham, Executive Chef-Owner, Beausoleil, Baton Rouge; Phillip Lopez, Executive Chef, Rambla, New Orleans; Colt Patin, Executive Chef, Crawfish Town USA, Henderson. 6:30 cocktails and hors d'oeuvres; 7:15 dinner.

Have a wonderful cool week and enjoy what our beloved city has to offer.
