Even though he desperately wants the “rich” to pay more taxes, the President certainly likes vacationing with them. According to one of our richest businessmen, Donald Trump, the President is politically tone deaf. In a recent interview Trump complained, “What's happening to this country is horrible. All over the world, they're talking about it. And we have a president that's constantly -- whether it's Martha's Vineyard or someplace else, constantly on vacation. I mean, all the time he's on vacation! So I think it sends a very, very bad message. We have to work in this country to bring it back.”
Trump is right for it sends precisely the wrong message for our President to be vacationing at a ritzy resort while Americans are struggling to pay bills and desperately looking for work.
Obama’s stewardship of the economy has been a disaster and is the major reason why his poll numbers are tanking. According to a recent Gallup poll, President Obama is now registering his lowest approval rating ever, only 39 percent support.
Other than issuing the order to kill Osama Bin Laden, what has the President done to merit support? While almost all voters are upset with his handling of the economy, many liberals are now becoming more vocal in opposing the President. He promised to bring home the troops, end the wars and close Gitmo, but has fulfilled none of those promises. Instead, he has engaged the country in a third war with Libya.
He promised his stimulus plan would create plenty of new jobs and lower the unemployment rate, but recently admitted that “shovel-ready was not as shovel-ready as we expected." Mr. President, thanks for telling us now, one trillion dollars and a 9.1 percent unemployment rate later. Can we trust his promises on improving national healthcare, fiscal reform or reducing the debt ceiling? If history is any guide, no American in their right mind would believe this President.
On his ill-advised bus tour, riding in a $1.2 million bus made in Canada, the President cast blame everywhere else but his administration. Obama said nothing was his fault. In fact, he blamed poor economic conditions on the bickering in Congress, the Arab Spring, the earthquake and tsunami in Japan and the European debt crisis. Until recently, his favorite tactic was to blame former President George W. Bush for all of his woes, but the “blame Bush” excuse is finally wearing thin with voters, so now he has found some new villains.
Facing historic problems, the President decided not to get back to work and directly respond to the crisis by demanding Congress end their five week vacation. Instead, he embarked on his own extravagant 10 day sojourn to Martha’s Vineyard.
Our President is disconnected from the American people and seems to be living in an alternative political universe. It is amazing that his political team could not convince him that such a vacation was the wrong idea at this difficult time.
President Obama claims he will address the economic crisis with a speech to the nation in September. Until then, he is in effect telling the American people, "Don't bother me, I'm on vacation."
