Liberal Media Begins Newt Gingrich Feast

gingrichIt is happening once again in the Republican presidential race. The news media is taking aim at a conservative leading in the polls. After dispatching Sarah Palin, Michele Bachmann, Rick Perry and Herman Cain, the left wing news media is salivating about its next victim.

The latest target is former House Speaker Newt Gingrich. A new Fox News national poll places Gingrich slightly in front of Mitt Romney by a 23 to 22 percent margin. In Iowa, a Rasmussen poll has Gingrich in front by a 32 to 19 percent margin over Romney.

Clearly, it is Newt’s time in the spotlight, which means it is the media’s opportunity to blast him. MSNBC is devoting hours of programming to destroying Newt. Even Fox News gave top coverage to a story about Gingrich receiving $1.6 million over a seven year consulting contract with the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation, known as Freddie Mac. Before Gingrich’s name was divulged, there was scant media attention of political figures being paid by Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae. While Gingrich made significant consulting income, it pales in comparison to the $90 million that former Clinton adviser Franklin Raines was paid or the $20 million that Democratic operative Jim Johnson received.

Now that Herman Cain has dropped in the polls, the news media will lose interest in the dubious sexual harassment claims against him. The new leader, Newt Gingrich, will get all of the attention. We can now expect an array of stories about Gingrich’s personal life, his controversial business deals, and his varying positions on a number of issues.  We will also revisit his infamous “climate change” commercial with then House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

There is no doubt Gingrich has made mistakes and changed his stances on issues such as climate change. Not surprisingly, he now says he regrets doing the commercial with Pelosi. However, there is no doubt that Gingrich is intelligent and a very good debater. He would represent the GOP quite well in any debate against President Obama. Any objective observer of this year’s Republican debates must admit that Gingrich has shined.

His mastery of the issues is impressive. Voters will not see him stumble like Herman Cain on the issue of Libya or Rick Perry when he was asked about what federal departments he wanted to eliminate.

Gingrich has been in the political arena since the 1970’s and is no newcomer to the national stage. There is no need for Republicans to worry that he is not ready for prime time.

His rise shows that conservatives are desperately trying to find an alternative to former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney, who is a liberal masquerading as a conservative. As a candidate for Senate and then Governor in Massachusetts, Romney advocated liberal positions on a range of issues.  He now claims that he is a Reagan conservative, even though he criticized the conservative icon in a Massachusetts debate.

In effect, Romney is a phony and conservatives know that he will not bring the type of real change this country needs. On many issues, his stances line up perfectly with President Obama.

On the other hand, Gingrich, for all of his flaws, is more conservative than Romney and would offer Americans “a choice not an echo” in a race against Obama.

It will be interesting to see if the news media succeeds in their quest to kill the latest conservative alternative to Romney. Their real goal is to discredit any conservative, so Romney will win the Republican Party presidential nomination.

They know that if Romney is the nominee, the Republicans will lose and their hero, Barack Obama will win a second term. In that case, the news media will also win, but the country will lose big time. Let’s hope and pray the American people will see the truth despite the anti-conservative bias littering the airwaves.
