class warfareLouisiana U..S. Senator, Mary Landrieu has expressed her "extreme" disappointment after the Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction, Super Committee,  announced they were unable to come to an agreement.  In her statement, Landrieu stated appears to blame the Republicans for not being willing to discuss the raising of revenues.

 Here is her statement.

“I am extremely disappointed that the deficit reduction Super Committee was unable to produce a bipartisan deal. This was a missed opportunity at a time when our country needs visionary leadership. Total revenues into the Treasury today – at 14 percent – are at lowest they’ve been since the Eisenhower Administration. For our country to rebound, that number needs to be at least 18 percent. We must have a balanced plan that increases revenues, reforms entitlement programs and streamlines spending where possible. Democrats showed their willingness to discuss entitlement reform; sadly the committee could not reach a balanced approach. It is really unfortunate that Republicans weren’t willing to have a meaningful discussion about raising revenues on households making over a million dollars as part of a strategy for reducing

the deficit. We must put partisan politics aside and work together to get our fiscal house in order and put our economy back on track.”

Also, in  a press release, last week, Sen. Landrieu joined a bicameral, bipartisan group of lawmakersin calling for the Super Committee to “go big” and produce a plan to reduce the deficit by at least $4 trillion.

The talks failed despite the discussion that there might be a "new Idea" as expressed by one commmittes person. the Dow dropped 248 points.

The super committee's responsibiliy was to findways to cut deficits by at least $1.2 trillion over 10 years starting in 2013.
