Both the Louisiana Democratic Party and the Charlie Melancon, candidate for US Senate  are touting a  “internal poll memo” which says that democrat Melancon is only one point from his major  opponent, republican Senator  David Vitter.

Up to this point, various polls have had Vitter leading by as much as 23 points and as low as 9.

A email sent out by the Melancon campaign today stated “Our latest polling shows that this race is a dead heat: 43%-44%.”

Vitter  will face republican challengers in the republican primary and should he win, he will face the winner of the democratic primary and independents.
