Ochsner in the light
Ochsner Health System has plenty reasons to glow, lately. Even in the moonlight.
This Friday, Ochsner Health System is holding a party under the “stars” on the turf of the Superdome at the Moonlight & Miracles Gala on Friday, November 15! Following the theme “Today’s Gift, Tomorrow’s Miracle”, funds raised will benefit the Ochsner Cancer Institute, the largest nonprofit system in the Gulf South region to provide multidisciplinary care for adult and pediatric cancer patients.
The first annual event, which will raise money for a different medical program each year, includes a cocktail reception, seated dinner and dancing to the band Simply Irresistible -- all on the Superdome turf. A live auction will feature out-of-this-world trips, jewelry and more. And, one lucky guest will drive away in a brand new Mercedes-Benz that will be raffled off that night.
“The Moonlight & Miracles Gala is Ochsner’s largest fundraising event of the year and I am touched by the many volunteers who are working to make this a hallmark event,” said chairwoman Gayle Benson. “I’m honored to participate in something that will be so much fun while also benefiting so many cancer patients across our region.”
Tickets to Ochsner’s Moonlight & Miracles Gala begin at $150, which includes the cocktail party and seated dinner as well as free valet parking.
To purchase tickets for the event or the raffle or for additional information, please visit www.ochsner.org/miraclesgala or call 504-842-7113.
The Ochsner event actually happens to coincide with some other big news stories. In a recent announcement, CareChex®, a division of COMPARION, has named Ochsner number two in the country and number one in Louisiana in Overall Hospital Care in its 2014 hospital ratings. Ochsner received the highest rating of ++ and a score of 99.9 out of 100 in the national rankings. Over 4,000 hospitals from across the country were ranked in the Overall Hospital Care category which comprises ratings of all inpatient medical conditions and surgical procedures treated and performed by full-service hospitals, such as cancer care, cardiac surgery and spinal surgery. Ochsner was second only to St Mary’s Hospital, which is part of the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN.
Also, Ochsner Health System will soon be opening up its women’s services departments from the Jefferson Highway location to a state-of-the-art Women’s Pavilion at Ochsner Baptist hospital. The $40 million Women’s Pavilion has been under construction and will open on the 4th, 5th and 6th floors of Ochsner Baptist on Napoleon Avenue.

Baton Rouge Eco. Outlook
The Baton Rouge Area Chamber (BRAC) will be closing the 2014 Economic Outlook surveytomorrow, Thursday, November 14, 2013 at 5:00 pm. The organization has been seeking input from business and community leaders throughout the nine-parish region. The responses will be compiled and presented as part of BRAC’s 2014 Economic Outlook presentation. The survey can be found at www.brac.org/economicsurvey.
All businesses in the Baton Rouge Area who have not done so already are encouraged to take a moment to complete the survey. This should take less than five minutes. The information gathered will be used to assemble crucial data that can be utilized by area businesses as they plan and prepare for the year to come, which means a high level of participation from area businesses is very important. The data will allow regional business leaders to stay in front of trends and benefit from the economic prosperity of our region.
The 2014 Economic Outlook presentation will be given on Thursday, November 21, 2013, in conjunction with Baton Rouge Entrepreneurship Week, at BRAC’s Regional Stakeholder’s Breakfast. The presentation will offer insights, analysis, and forecasts of the Capital Region’s economy for upcoming year. The breakfast will be held at the City Club from 7:30 – 9:00 am. The event is free and open to the public but space is limited. Details about the event can be found at www.brac.org/events.
