keystone The U.S. Senate rejected Senator Mary Landrieu’s appeal to approve the Keystone XL Pipeline by a vote which exceeded 41 votes.   For the legislation to have succeeded, backers needed 60 votes for approval.

Landrieu, a Democrat from Louisiana had appealed to the Senate members to approve the legislation that has been tied up for six years.

Landrieu and proponents contend the pipeline will bring jobs to the US and reduce the nation’s dependency upon foreign oil

Opponents have argued that few jobs would be created and that the pipeline would cause more pollution.
