christmas-districtIt might not snow much in New Orleans.  And Santa gets hit later than elsewhere USA because we are so Deep South—far from the cold winds and reindeers of the North Pole.

Don’t think the festivities here are just a bunch of Bah Humbug. After all, Christmas in the District’s NOLA Christmas is stocking-full of great family fun for you and for everyone.

And, it starts Friday.

Christmas in New Orleans has always been a magical time and now a dazzling, family-friendly event offers another opportunity to get into the holiday spirit with spectacular lighting and activities at the New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center.

Christmas in the District is expanding and bringing the fun indoors this year! The highlight of the event will be NOLA ChristmasFest, a two-week festival in the Great Hall, December 12-24, providing holiday fun for the whole family. Discover the new My New Orleans Christmas display after a journey through the Great Hall of Trees featuring a stunning collection of more than 50 decorated trees and a Gingerbread House competition benefiting Operation Homefront, an organization supporting local military families. In Santa’s Playland, children of all ages can enjoy the inflatable zone, petting zoo and a host of hands-on crafts and activities. A variety of holiday characters will include special appearances by Mr. Bingle, the Ice Princesses with their favorite Snowman and many more. Skype with Santa’s Elves and take a photo with Santa Claus. Two stages will feature performances by Robin Barnes, 610 Stompers, Lena Prima, the Victory Bells, local choirs, cooking demonstrations and puppet shows, just to name a few. On weekends, the Arts and Craft Market gives visitors the opportunity to shop for holiday gifts.

NOLA ChristmasFest will kick off activities with a Children’s Lantern Parade on December 12 and a concert by the Imagination Movers on December 13. Parties with the Ice Princess and the Ice Queen are scheduled on December 14, 20, 21, 22, 23 & 24. A Sing-along Pajama Party with Santa takes place on December 22. Other events throughout Christmas in the District include the Harrah’s Champagne Stroll on December 5 and the Santa Paws second line dog costume contest on December 14.

Additionally, Convention Center Boulevard will be festooned with thousands of lights and animated music from December 1 – January 6.

The New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center is funding the event as a part of its mission to attract visitors to New Orleans and Louisiana. NOLA ChristmasFest expected to inspire all the residents and businesses in the Warehouse/Arts District to embrace the event and help grow it annually.

“We invite visitors and locals alike to bring their families and friends to the convention center to enjoy all of the festivities that NOLA ChristmasFest has to offer and to shop and dine in the Warehouse/Arts District,” said Bob Johnson, President/General Manager of the New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center. “We also encourage all surrounding businesses and residents to join in the Christmas spirit by putting up their own festive lights and decorations in their windows and outside of their buildings. Working together, NOLA ChristmasFest could rival some of the largest holiday events in the country.”

NOLA ChristmasFest will complement the annual Christmas New Orleans Style celebration and will continue to evolve annually. Now is the time to plan your New Orleans holiday excursion and take advantage of spectacular Papa Noel rates in hotels citywide!
