Louisiana Higher education officials thank House of Reps for revenues

lsuWith the House of Representatives approving over $670 million in revenues which includes taxes today in a major session at the capitol, the State's University leaders have indicated its approval with the statement below. 


However, the Louisiana Democratic Party believes the revenues raised were not adequate.  The Louisiana Senate would still be required to approve the revenue increase and possibly even more difficult, the Louisiana Governor has stated he would veto the budget if it increased taxes.

Statements from higher education leaders regarding revenue measures passed by the House of Representatives:

“The Board of Regents is grateful for the House of Representatives’ passage of several revenue measures which will provide a stable source of funding for higher education for FY 15-16.  This solution will protect the WISE Fund, preclude the downgrading of bond ratings, and provide a significant and sustainable solution to enhance the viability of our institutions.  We are optimistic that our friends in the Senate will continue the momentum started by the House to provide stable funding sources for state government and higher education.”
