louisiana-capital 3Is there time or opportunity for another candidate, one similar to Donald Trump, who could fund his or her own campaign, given the dissatisfaction voters have in the state and their lack of excitement for the current candidates?  One such potential candidate who has discussed the prospects of jumping into the race is John Georges, who ran for Governor and for New Orleans Mayor.  Are there any others?  Could they win with only two weeks left until qualifying?

These were some of the issues discussed last week during a interview with Dr. Michael Henderson, Research Director of the LSU Public Policy Research Lab, which had recently published a survey on the upcoming election.

Discussing these issues were Jim Brown, former statewide official and Bayoubuzz Publisher Stephen Sabludowsky.

The Lab’s summer survey, indicated that voters were pessimistic and disinterested in the elections.  US Senator David Vitter, had the highest name recognition compared to the other candidates whose political philosophies are not well-known.

The three talked about this phenomenon in an earlier segment.

So far, the only Democratic candidate is in a virtual tie with Vitter, although there was one poll that indicated that Scott Angelle, Public Service Commissioner had overtaken Vitter.  The most recent poll, however, puts Vitter well ahead of his other Republican competition, which includes Jay Dardenne, Lt. Governor.

Still, Vitter, who has run two statewide elections as well as being a state representative and Congressman is not tearing away the field. He does have a substantial war chest which certainly makes him a favorite.  But what if another self-funding candidate, entered the competition, even at this late date, one that could present himself as a Trump-style outsider?
