During the eight years Barack Obama was President, Democrats were united. He was the unifying force that held the party together. By bringing in Hillary Clinton as his Secretary of State, he healed the wounds from the bruising 2008 presidential race. During his re-election campaign of 2012, Obama was not challenged for the Democratic presidential nomination and won another term as President.

In the race to take on President Donald Trump, vice-president Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders continue to slip in the polls among Democratic voters according to the just released Morning Consult poll. Perhaps the most disturbing aspect of the survey is that among likely voters, Biden's lead drops to high single digits.

Here’s what we learned from the first democratic presidential debate last week. Do not fraternize with those you disagree with and never refer to a fellow politician as son, boy or anything similar.  It’s just not “politically correct.”

Former Vice President Joe Biden was roasted for talking about trying to find common ground with conservative southern senators when he served in the U.S. Senate.  “At least there was some civility” Biden said about working with segregationists like former Mississippi Senator James Eastland. He should not have been so “civil” says a number of other democratic candidates.

The torch Joe Biden claims he’s still carrying is sputtering like a firecracker on a wet lawn. In the second night of Democratic televised look-me-overs, the former V.P. was shut down by Cal Sen. Kamala Harris in a set piece that should spell the end for Uncle Joe. Harris, in contrast to Biden’s pasteurized plastic smile, was emotive, prosecutorial, and intelligent when she attacked Biden for comments he made, recently, about working with segregationist senators back in the day.

Since his entry into the race, confident supporters of former Vice President Joe Biden have been predicting his ascension to the White House and an easy victory over President Trump next year. They point to polls which show Biden leading his Democratic opponents in his march toward the nomination and defeating President Trump in a hypothetical 2020 election matchup.

A new Quinnipiac University polls shows good news for the top Democratic presidential contenders. In individual matchups against President Trump, all of them are leading. In fact, former Vice President Joe Biden enjoys a significant lead of 53-40% over the President.  Other polls also give Biden a strong lead over Trump, both nationally and in battleground states like Pennsylvania.

In the 2016 presidential race, all the so-called experts predicted that former Florida Governor Jeb Bush would easily win the GOP nomination and face Hillary Clinton in the general election. The problem with this prediction was that Bush was a horrible candidate who did not appeal to the base of the Republican Party. Voters suffered from “Bush fatigue” and wanted a change.

It’s getting “Curiouser and curiouser!” for sure. And, I’m absolutely believing that in this Alice and Wonderland world of Trump era politics that “we’re all mad here” already, so nothing should shock any of us, ever.

Still, I’m not quite sure how else to explain it.

To the thick, and thin, of things, the first polls are out, putatively describing which Democrat has the best chance of beating President Donald Trump in 2020. Sleepy Joe Biden debuted at the top spot and immediately signaled that he wasn’t that guy when he announced Trump was an aberrational Republican. Since every member of the GOP, except Mitt Romney, has bent over backwards to accommodate Trump, Biden is wrong. They are all just like Trump.

With the entry of creepy “Uncle Joe” Biden into the race for the White House, the total number of Democratic Party presidential candidates has reached 20, making it the largest field in history. Unfortunately, a massive number of candidates does not translate into great ideas on how to move the country forward. Most of the major proposals being offered by these presidential candidates are truly frightening and would propel the United States of America on the road toward socialism, which leads to economic ruin and societal devastation.
