During the eight years Barack Obama was President, Democrats were united. He was the unifying force that held the party together. By bringing in Hillary Clinton as his Secretary of State, he healed the wounds from the bruising 2008 presidential race. During his re-election campaign of 2012, Obama was not challenged for the Democratic presidential nomination and won another term as President.

GREEN EASY OAC

The new phenomenon of the political world is U.S. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), otherwise known as “AOC.” This upstart congresswoman was bartending last year. Now, the entire political world knows her by her initials.

In less than three months, she has upended the Congress and the Democratic Party. It is AOC who is controlling the agenda, not House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA).  This 29-year old is garnering more media attention than any other Democrat politician today. She has mastered social media and the talking points of the left.

Her major initiative, the Green New Deal, has been discussed in both houses of Congress. It is an ambitious agenda that calls for a “10-year national mobilization” to transition from fossil fuels to renewable sources of energy. Some of the plan’s goals include the “eliminating the necessity for air travel” and providing “economic security to citizens unable or unwilling to work.”

Remember the echo can chamber? Way back, before Al Gore invented the Internet, one way that kids would talk to one another would be by stringing two cans together. The words would go out of the mouth of the speaker, hit the back of the can, vibrate along the string, hit the other can's end and within micro-seconds, and somewhat miraculously, enters the ear of the other guy holding up the can.

Things have changed.

Nowadays, one can say something and before one can look for a string, the words are dissiminated around the world, via email, twitter, facebook post and yes, even by cell phone and snail mail.

No longer do conservatives, moderates or even mainstream liberals have a home in the Democratic Party of today. They have been forced out by radical activists moving the party further to the left on a range of important issues.

In Congress, the main spokespeople for the Democratic Party are progressive superstars like U.S. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), who espouses a “Green New Deal” and a 70% income tax rate. Not to be outdone, U.S. Representative Ilhan Omar (D-MN) is advocating an upper tax rate of 90%. According to Omar, the 90% rate is “a place to start…The one percent must pay their fair share.”
