schedler listRefreshed embarrassment has come the way of Louisiana’s Republican Sec. of State Tom Schedler, and perhaps it’s more appropriate that he be ushered out the door rather than hoping he’ll do it himself anytime soon.

gop congress restLast rites for the Republican-controlled House and Senate?

Perhaps.

According to two Louisiana politicos, political writer Christopher Tidmore and pollster and analyst John Couvillon of JMC Polling and Analytics, right now, it's doom and gloom time at the not-so-ok GOP corral.

Yet, we know that mid-term elections are six months away. Based upon the 2016 elections, one can never say "never" in the age of Trump. Still, as the present is precursor to the future, judging by Couvillon's and Tidmore's view of the national political landscape, there could be plenty of cursing and blaming among the ranks of Republicans, this November coming.

collision2018 4 2I'm JAZZED. It's that time of the year again.

Jazz Fest in New Orleans, over the past three years is where technology, business, entrepreneurship, music and food have collided thanks to a fast-growing mega-event called Collision Conference. This week, starting the second week of the world-renown New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival--the sights, the sounds, the tastes, the big names and the great ideas once again converge upon the place where the BIG EASY intersects with SILICON BAYOU. And for the third straight year, I have had the opportunity to engage in a video interview with the coordinator of communications for this great event, Mike Harvey. Thankfully, including his promoting Vice President Al Gore heading the star-studded stage of speakers, Harvey had much of which to be excited.

comey hiredSad to say that the truth has become a diminishing commodity in America today.  Particularly when it comes to many branches of government.  Remember the old adage that “I’m from the federal government and I’m here to help you?”  Too often, they are here to examine, investigate and even prosecute you.

obama trumpOn October 9, 2009, then United States President Barack Obama was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for “extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples.” While the award was given to Obama over eight months after he was inaugurated, nominations for the prize were closed a mere 11 days after he took the oath of office.

midterms gop 3A landslide loss of historic proportions? A blue wave ready to engulf America?  Are the warning signs currently present that should tell the Republican party nationally to be ready to embrace the worst?

chicken legislature 4Christopher Tidmore essentially calls it a game of legislative chicken. Which is what the House, the Senate and the Governor appear to be playing this Louisiana legislative session with the budget.  In a recent interview with the political columnist for the Louisiana Weekly and radio talk show host, Tidmore and with JMC Polling and Analytics, John Couvillon, the lawmakers must somehow fill a still-gaping hole in which House Republicans have basically taken taxes off the table after passing a budget protecting the popular TOPS program while shortchanging the health care and higher education vital services.

obama herpesLike herpes, the misnamed Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (“Obamacare”) keeps on giving. And Louisianans, who gained some relief from it courtesy of recent reforms, to varying degrees find themselves paying more one way or another.

SUCKING SOUND 5It is always difficult for Louisiana to lose a corporate headquarters, but it is even more difficult when it involves a homegrown business. Yesterday, Smoothie King, a company started in Kenner, Louisiana announced the relocation of its corporate headquarters to Irving, Texas, in the Dallas metropolitan area.

broke dome 4We're all familiar with "Build it, They will come"

That's exactly what New Orleans and Louisiana did to attract the New Orleans Saints and later the New Orleans Pelicans.

But, what if? What if we, the State of Louisiana, stopped funding our beloved professional football and basketball teams's existence in these parts, in what some might call, pro sports "pay to play"?

Familiar with "Fund us, or we will go"?
