Louisiana News & politics focus on Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards and Louisiana legislature
Latest Buzz
Yesterday was another day in the long struggle for survival on the Gulf Coast. It also marked another visit from an Obama administration official. This time, Vice President Joe Biden brought his usual mix of foolish bravado and inappropriate humor to the region. His visit amounted to nothing of substance for the people of our state. His trip required the diversion of resources from vital clean-up efforts. Biden used his short visit to appear on camera with other politicians and eat seafood. Amazingly, Biden refused to meet with Plaquemines Parish President Billy Nungesser and only gave this key local leader thirty seconds of his time. Biden used the visit for politics and a photo opportunity, instead of an opportunity to clean up the mess created by the federal government.

Vice President Biden visited the Gulf Coast yesterday under a storm of anger and a natural one powering through the western Gulf of Mexico.
Across the Gulf coastal region, members of the seafood industry are upset and concerned about the growing desperate plight of their families and businesses.
As each day goes by, another seafood industry icon closes its doors while the industry leaders assert that there are plenty of shrimps and fish safe to eat and available to go to market.
What did Governor Bobby Jindal discuss with Joe Biden during the Vice President’s visit to Louisiana on June 29?
Certainly one of the issues was the gulf deep drilling moratorium that is high on the agenda of BP oil spill related issues.
Here are just some of the comments Jindal gave to the media during the press conference held following his visit with Biden.
Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal discussed his visit with Vice President Joseph Biden who travelled to Louisiana and other parts of the Gulf Coast.
Jindal said the two discussed a number of issues and heard from the commercial fishermen who have been gravely impacted by the BP oil spill and the gulf deep water drilling moratorium imposed by President Barack Obaman after the Deep Horizon rig exploded.

Vice President Biden is visiting the Gulf Goast today under a storm of anger and a natural one in the western part of the Gulf of Mexico.

And, as June now makes way for July, and as days of this crises mount, local government officials are getting more frantic, disillusioned and upset at what they see as BP and the federal government’s slow, inadequate and sometimes feeble response.
Darling friends,
Where else in the world can you attend, in one week, among others, a three-hour-long patriotic concert at Trinity Church, a NO Pride concert and parade, the French-American Chamber of Commerce Louisiana Chapter's Summer Wine Festival, Sting with the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra, Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus, New Orleans Shakespeare Festival presenting Macbeth, and a wonderfully informative tasting of absinthe with mixologist Ted Breaux? For a transplanted New Yorker like myself, New Orleans doesn't have to envy any other city. What we do in a month is what some cities do in a year.
Here are some of the changes in tropical storm Alex according to the

On Monday, Governor Bobby Jindal's Secretary of the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals Secretary issued this press release in relationship to the DeepWater Horizon Oil Spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
BATON ROUGE - In a letter to BP America's Chief Operating Officer Doug Suttles on Monday, Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals Secretary Alan Levine requested $10 million from BP to provide mental health services to Louisiana residents affected by the oil spill.

Last night, long serving U.S. Senator Robert Byrd (D-WV) passed away at the age of 92. Byrd was first elected 52 years ago in a much different era. Before his Senate career, Byrd was a recruiter for the KKK. Three years after he supposedly left the organization, he was still writing letters on behalf of the organization. In 1946, Byrd wrote the Imperial Wizard of the KKK, “The Klan is needed today as never before and I am anxious to see its rebirth here in West Virginia” and “in every state in the Union.”
The chamber of Martin Feldman, the US District Judge in New Orleans, who overruled the very controversial six-month moratorium overturning the ban on deepwater oil drilling in the Gulf of Mexico after the BP oil spill has released a statement that refers to his prior ownership of Exxon stock.
"The judge was told by his broker that the stock was sold at the opening of the market in New York on Tuesday, June 22nd and several hours before the Court made its decision.
He only learned about his stock ownership at 9:45 pm Monday the 21st and because he remembered that Exxon, who was not a party litigant in the moratorium case, nevertheless had one of the 33 rigs in the Gulf, the judge instructed his broker to sell Exxon and XTO as soon as the market opened the next morning.
The judge doesn’t know whether there was a profit or a loss on the sale."

What began as an attempt for the long serving assessor of Jefferson Parish to resign early--allowing his successor to take office prior to 2012's re-assessment process--has exploded into a political chain-reaction that could impact the statewide race for Lt. Governor and change the landscape of the hotly contested Jefferson Parish President's contest.
Giants director of player development, Charles Way, has visited Chas Jones in the hospital and both coach Tom Coughlin and GM Jerry Reese have spoken to him by phone.
Though the injury occurred as Jones was ending a detour along street car tracks which has become an unfortunate driving hobby for New Orleans, the Giants have no cause to recover any of his signing bonus, because under the current labor law signing bonus money can be recovered only if a player holds out, retires or violates the steroid policy.
